Week of Italian Cuisine in the world
“Italian cuisine is culture, research and innovation; it is an opportunity for formation, for the identity of the territories, as well as an emblem of biodiversity. Promoting it around the world is a priority of the foreign ministry's economic diplomacy ”. Thus expressed the Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, in presenting the 2021 edition. It is "one of the most anticipated and appreciated events among those organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the integrated promotion of Italy", reiterated the government representative.
Speaking of the theme chosen as the leitmotif of this year's edition, Di Maio underlined: “Agri-food and Mediterranean Diet. We want to enhance this combination which constitutes a model of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, based on sustainability ".
Italian agri-food, international excellence
"According to 2020 data, the agri-food sector in Italy is worth 208 billion euros, equal to 12,6 percent of GDP. This is the first sector of our economy, to whose added value it contributes more than 4 percent, around 64 billion euros. It employs just under one and a half million people, or 6 percent of the total employed. Furthermore, it must be said that in the first seven months of 2021, Italian exports in this sector increased by 10,3 percent compared to the same period of 2020, reaching almost 21 billion euros. Wine exports alone, which grew by 14,5 percent, are worth almost 4 billion euros ".
These are the data provided by Minister Di Maio and by Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the national agri-food sector which is confirmed as an internationally recognized excellence. Eating Italian means eating healthy, according to the dictates of Mediterranean Diet which is a UNESCO heritage site. A diet based on the freshness and authenticity of the products, many of which are locally sourced: a diet rich in proteins and minerals, with the right amount of sugars and fats. The perfect mix to nourish without excess and feel good in body and soul.
