Sant'Angelo di Roccalvecce, a few kilometers from Viterbo and the wonderful village of Civita di Bagnoregio, is the land of fairy tales. When you arrive in this place of wonders, you are almost incredulous when faced with the colorful murals painted on the facades of the houses and on the walls of the streets, the mosaics and installations depicting the most beautiful fairy tales ever.

The Fox and the Grape

Walking through the alleys and streets of this village, which today is a real open-air museum, allows adults and children to daydream. In fact, one has the impression of entering many fantastic worlds, all very well represented.

On the wings of fantasy

Before becoming the town of fairy tales, Sant'Angelo di Roccalvecce risked disappearing. Inhabited almost exclusively by elderly people, and rather isolated because it lacked connections, it was slowly dying out. If today it is a completely renovated and revalued village, it is due to a brilliant intuition ofCultural Association of Arts and Entertainment, chaired by Gianluca Chiovelli.

The Sleeping Beauty

Together with his sister Paola and his cousin Alessandro, Gianluca proposed to the locals to transform the town into a magical storybook, decorating it with murals, installations and mosaics inspired by fairy tales and popular legends. The zero-impact project was approved and also involved street artists and artisans from the province.

Sant'Angelo di Roccalvecce, Alice

In November 2017 the first mural was inaugurated "Alice in Wonderland", visible on the wall of a house in the central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, in which the protagonist is painted together with Bianconiiglio with his inseparable pocket watch. From that moment on, numerous other works were created.

Hansel e Gretel

Crossing the streets of the village you will be enchanted by the most beloved characters from the fairy tales that colored our childhood. Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Puss in Boots, The Pied Piper, The Little Match Girl, Mary Poppins, are some of those you meet in the alleys.

The “Path of castles and fairy tales”

Thanks to this multicolored magic, the village of Sant'Angelo di Roccalvecce has returned to life and today, thanks to the numerous visitors who come there daily, it is filled with voices and smiles, but above all with dreams, essential also for the inhabitants of the place. To orient you in this world suspended between reality and fantasy, the ACAS association has created nature trails. They cross the entire village and are part of a single large "Path of Castles and Fairy Tales”, mapped by the Italian Alpine Club.

Sant'Angelo di Roccalvecce, fairy tale

Sant'Angelo di Roccalvecce is an unmissable stop for all children in the world and for those who, despite their age, never stop believing in dreams. Because fairy tales are magical and allow everyone to experience wonder and - as Gianni Rodari wrote - "to educate the mind".
