To combat depopulation and boost local tourism, the municipality of San Mauro La Bruca proposes the initiative "2 euro holiday". Little pearl of the Cilento, the town wants to exploit once again its strategic position close to Palinuro and Pisciotta and placed on one of the most famous coasts of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano national park.
The regulation of the “2 euro holiday” project in San Mauro La Bruca
"2 euro holidayWas created last summer by the administration of the mayor Francesco Scarabino. A choice born for the continuous depopulation of the town of San Mauro La Bruca. In fact, in recent years the inhabited areas have dropped from 1300 to 576, a decline that has prompted us to find ingenious solutions. One of the strengths of the territory is also the ability to have kept the Coronavirus out. In fact, they have not been infected since the beginning of the pandemic. For this reason the "2 euro holiday" is proposed again this year. The regulation specifies that the Municipality makes available free of charge six double rooms of its structure in the town square, for a maximum of seven nights per person.
Adult citizens, Italians and foreigners, residents outside the Campania region or abroad, who have no relatives or similar residents in San Mauro, can book a holiday in Cilento. The rooms will be assigned in chronological order of acquisition of the expression of interest for seven consecutive nights and subject to availability, with shifts from Saturday to Saturday. Sheets, pillows, blankets and food are not provided. Guests will have to take care of cleaning the room. The offer is valid from June 26th to October 2nd.
The success of last year
The initiative comes one year after the great success recorded in the summer of 2020. Between 25 July and 30 September they reached San Mauro La Bruca 1500 tourists mainly from the center-north. The only bar, the few pizzerias and oil producers have benefited from it and hope to have a boost to their economy again. In fact, in the village it was possible to have a bottle of oil as a souvenir for the price of two coffees. Mayor Francesco Scarabino believes in the project: "We plan to fill up again this year our only wish is for the country to survive depopulation. Difficult undertaking, but we do not intend to give up ".
San Mauro La Bruca is a small town in the province of Salerno. It became famous in 1969 when 63 consecrated hosts were stolen by unknown persons. The same were then found intact. Today they are preserved intact after more than 50 years. The miracle it was made known by Carlo Acutis, who was proclaimed blessed last year. The boy built a website dedicated to Eucharistic miracles and among others he inserted that of San Mauro La Bruca where he often went to visit the Sanctuary when he spent his holidays in Palinuro with his parents in Milan.
