The story of one of the most famous routes in the world

According to historical sources it is an ancient road of Roman origin which housed the temple consecrated to the Goddess Ceres, the goddess of fertility and the earth. It seems, therefore, that already in those times the devotees brought terracotta statuettes as ex votos to the temple, hoping that the goddess would welcome and fulfill their wishes. Again according to historical documents, a monastery was built on the foundations of the ancient Roman temple in the XNUMXth century. Here, some nuns of the order of Saint Basil, fled from Constantinople due to iconoclastic persecutions, they secured the relics of San Gregory bishop of Armenia. Subsequently, in the eighteenth century, the crib art of the Neapolitan artisans spread and consolidated and concentrated in what, still today, is the most visited street of cribs in the world.
