Salina di Cervia: between present and past

The first attestations of the salt pan date back to the XNUMXth century AD, but from recent discoveries it can be assumed that it was already present in Roman times. The salt of Cervia binds twice with the history of the city. The toponym Cervia, in fact, could derive from Latin acervus  namely cumulation, in reference to the masses of salt. The collection of white gold takes place in the heart of the salt pan and precisely in the basins divided into three tanks (one kilometer long and 453 meters wide). Even today the traditional way of collecting salt is used, but the latter is enriched with the aid of a conveyor belt and a trolley. The 144 salt pans were transformed into a single large saline (industrial collection) and the only surviving saline (multiple collection) called Camillone, it works thanks to the voluntary activity carried out by Salinara Civilization Cultural Group with the production of high quality rooms and garrison Slow food.
