Greco Nero from Spadafora 1915, a historic Calabrian winery, triumphed at the "Eccellenze di Beviamoci Sud" competition in Rome. It took first place in the "Best Rosé Wine" category with its Rosaspina 2024 made from Greco Nero grapes.

Greco Nero is an ancient grape variety, grown primarily along the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. Traditionally used for full-bodied red wines, in recent years it has also demonstrated extraordinary versatility as a rosé. The 2024 Rosaspina presents a pale, bright pink color. On the nose, it offers delicate aromas of strawberry, pomegranate, and light floral notes. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with a pleasant savory finish that evokes the proximity of the sea.
The success achieved in Rome is a sign of a Calabrian winemaking region increasingly aware of its roots while also open to innovation. The Spadafora 1915 winery, founded in the early 20th century, embodies a story of family and passion, where tradition and modern technology harmoniously interact.
The recognition of Rosaspina 2024 as the best rosé demonstrates that even lesser-known grape varieties can reach heights of excellence. It's an invitation to look beyond the most celebrated labels and discover, in the glass, the authentic richness of Italy's terroirs.
