The team of the Cardiology department of the Taormina hospital saved a twelve-year-old girl from Monza, on holiday with her family, with timely heart surgery.

A twelve-year-old girl from Monza, who arrived in Sicily on holiday with her family in recent weeks, felt ill during a day at the beach. On 29 July the family left Macherio to reach a holiday village in Pozzallo, in the Ragusa area. The day after she went from Modica to Taormina. Little Federica had already undergone an operation previously. It was then decided to transfer it by air ambulance to Taormina where there is pediatric cardiac surgery.
The girl was hospitalized and subsequently operated on as an emergency. The problem was in her heart and she was promptly saved by the doctors of theBambin Gesù hospital in Taormina.
The intervention
The surgery lasted from 10 in the morning to 10 in the evening and saw the replacement of the aorta and the valve. After two days in intensive care Federica was moved to the ward. The family is still in Sicily, waiting for the little girl to fully recover before leaving.
The Macherio family promptly expressed gratitude and satisfaction for how the emergency concerning their little Federica was dealt with in the best possible way. Here are their words:

"We have met angels, everyone has mobilized to give us a hand, from the pharmacist to the doctor who helped us find a home, from the nurse who brings the brioches to Federica, the smiles and attentions of the doctors and all the staff of the 'hospital. A warmth that unfortunately we no longer find in the north. Kindness and attention that helped us but above all Federica to start smiling again and recover quickly. Southern Italy is criticized a lot but we have found an excellence, it is incredible to think that the Region wants to close this department of the hospital in Taormina, these people saved our lives and we will never stop thanking them, they worked a miracle. We will definitely be back to tour the island! "
