The Civil Protection of the Puglia Region has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions for the Puglia region, reporting a worsening expected starting from midnight on December 5. The alert, valid for the next 24 hours, foresees levels of criticality varying between orange alert e yellow alert, depending on the areas affected.

Given this situation, local authorities recommend that citizens adopt prudent behaviors to reduce the risks associated with bad weather.
Among the recommended measures, here are the tips to keep outdoors and those at home.
Outdoors: avoid standing under tall trees, poles or other exposed structures, especially during thunderstorms; do not use road or railway underpasses in heavy rain, even in cars; avoid contact with metal objects or other conductive materials, which could attract electrical discharges; stay away from high-voltage pylons.
In home: turn off and unplug electronic equipment such as televisions, computers and household appliances; avoid using electrical appliances and landline telephones during the storm.
Risk areas and weather forecasts
The orange alert concerns the following areas:
- Central Adriatic Puglia;
- Salento;
- Lato and Lenne basins;
- Central Puglia Bradanica;
- Lower Ofanto.
A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining areas of the region, including Bari. Forecasts indicate widespread rainfall, also of a shower or thunderstorm nature, with moderate accumulations, up to high in the southern sectors. The weather phenomena will be locally intense, especially in the Salento peninsula with possible intense electrical activity and strong gusts of wind.
The importance of prevention and expected rains
While it is hoped that the bad weather will not cause significant damage, it is hoped that the rainfall will help mitigate the water crisis that has affected the region for months (here is the Aqp press release from a few days ago). Heavy rains, if well managed, represent an opportunity to replenish water reserves and address future needs. Citizens are encouraged to constantly follow updates issued by the authorities and to report any dangerous situations.
