“Biagio Agnes” Award to Roberta Metsola, president of the European Parliament. In the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, the international recognition of journalism and information has been awarded, now in its 15th edition.

Conducted by Mara Venier and Alberto Matano, the event will also be broadcast on Rai in the late evening. “The 2023 edition is an important one – he underlines Simone Agnes, soul of the prize and of the Agnes Foundation – With this recognition my father wanted to enhance, exalt, defend the profession of journalists, which was his profession and his passion. Today we carry on his message of rigor, seriousness, commitment, concentration. Above all of freedom, in giving information, in doing journalism and in giving correct and fair, impartial and truthful communication. This is our commitment. Then, thanks to the presence of President Metsola who works for peace every day, the award goes beyond national borders and looks at the'Europe. So we also have the opportunity to talk about the war that is so close and about women, especially Iranian women who fight every day for their freedom".

Roberta Metsola is a lawyer and specialized in Community law, and has been actively involved in politics for several years now. From November 2020 to January 2022 you held the position of Deputy Vice-President of the European Parliament during the Presidency of David Sassoli, taking over on an interim basis after his passing. You candidate of the European People's Party (EPP) in the consultations for the presidency of the European Parliament in January 2022, you were elected in the first round with 458 out of 616 votes. Metsola is the youngest president in the history of this institution and the third woman to hold the position.
The winners
Among this year's winners, correspondents Stefania Battistini of Tg1 and Lorenzo Cremonesi of Corriere della Sera, for their stories on the field and lucid and painful testimony of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia (War Reporter Award). Francesca Paci, reporter for La Stampa, for her story on the struggle of Iranian women (printed paper award). Fiorello the great showman of Viva Rai2! Recognition also went to Our general, with Sergio Castellitto, dedicated to the memory of the general From the Church (fiction award); Dante, the film about the poet by Pupi Avati (Cinema Award). Agnes Prize to the jurist Sabino Cassese (essayist and writer prize); the reporter of Corriere della Sera Margherita De Bac (Scientific Disclosure Award). Cecilia Sala, journalist of Il Foglio, Chora Media and the Rai Radio3 format Voci in barcaccia. And, finally, Silvia Boccardi of Will Media (Digital Generation Award promoted by the Department of Information and Publishing of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers).
