This was decreed by Artribune magazine, which included it among its Best of 2021: peccioli and the "best small town of the year".
Peccioli, a village to discover
Hilltop village in the province of Pisa, Peccioli dominates the Era Valley. Orange flag of the Italian Touring Club in recognition of its artistic-environmental value, it develops around the medieval castle. And it really resembles an enchanted place, immersed as it is in a natural context that - its agricultural traditions - has kept them intact over time. Why is Peccioli the best small town of the year? Why is it a small open-air art museum, is attentive to sustainability and is full of installations that celebrate the territory. Just think of the Timeless Palace, with its permanent and temporary exhibitions and its suspended panoramic terrace.
But, in Piccioli, there are many walking itineraries between art and history: a couple of hours' walk is enough to travel the length and breadth of the village admiring at least twenty works (out of the total 65). A stop at the panoramic bridge wrapped in giant colored spirals is a must: a work of Patrick Tuttofuoco which amazes everyone, young and old. But there are many places to write down in your notebook if you are planning a trip to Peccioli: the Amphitheater of Fonte Mazzola, the church of the Madonna del Carmine, the Biological Mechanical Treatment Plant (TMB) with its funny fresco.
It is not only the "best small town of the year", Piccioli. It is definitely a village to discover, just as this whole corner of Tuscany is to be discovered. An extraordinary fusion of art, history and nature.
