The presidents of the two branches of Parliament have been elected, the nineteenth legislature of Italian republican history begins. Today the Northern League player Lorenzo Fontana was elected as president of the Chamber of Deputies, obtaining 222 votes. Last night Ignazio La Russa was elected at the helm of the Senate of the Republic, obtaining 116 consent.
Lorenzo Fontana
“I wish to address a lively and authentic greeting to President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, pivot of the nation and fundamental guarantor of our Constitution and guardian of its fundamental values. I want to dedicate a first greeting to Pope Francis, which represents the spiritual reference of the majority of Italian citizens and promotes respect for the most moral values in the world. Starting with respect for human dignity and fundamental human rights, recalling that he is carrying out a diplomatic action in favor of unparalleled peace ”. This is an excerpt from the speech delivered by President Lorenzo Fontana immediately after the election.
Ignazio La Russa
"I will try with all my strength to be everyone's president. Also in this legislature we expect and will talk about reforms. We must not fable the 'everything and now', but above all we must not fear them. We must try to make them together. And the Senate may be responsible for the need to update, not the first part which is intangible, but that part of the Constitution which gives more capacity to give answers to citizens and to belong to the will of the people. I believe that the Senate can do it, in various ways: the important thing is that there is political will to carry out these reforms ”. Thus the president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa elected last night with 116 votes.
The new legislature begins pending the new government
Giorgia Meloni, who is preparing to become the first female premier in Italian history, welcomed the election of the two presidents. “It seems to me that things are going well, we work, we work - he commented we are ready. I think we can't waste time, the situation in Italy is not easy ”. In fact, there are many emergencies and problems that afflict the country and everyone's hope is that the new Meloni government will be formed as soon as possible to become operational quickly.
