In a sad time for the whole world, with the war going on in Ukraine, luckily there is good news from sport. The first Italian gold arrives at the winter Paralympics that is being held in Beijing. A great success for James Bertagnolli who won the “visually impaierd” competition, ie those with visual disabilities. Bertagnoli, standard-bearer of the blue expedition, had Andrea Ravelli as a guide. Johannes completed the podium Aigner (Austrian) and Neil Simpson (British). This is Bertagnolli's second medal in these Games after silver in super-G.

The medal table of the Paralympics

With this gold victory, Italy jumps to thirteenth place in the Paralympics medal table. At the moment Italy in addition to Bertagnolli's gold has won 2 bronzes.

Dominate the China with 25 total medals: 7 golds, 8 silvers and 10 bronzes. In second place, Ukraine: 4 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze. Canada closes the podium: 4 golds, 2 silvers and 6 bronzes. At 3 golds there are: Japan, France and Slovakia. The only 2 gold is Norway.

The Italian delegation

All Paralympics just started (March 4) which will end on March 13, Italy has brought 32 athletes. They are engaged in 4 different sports: para ice hockey, alpine skiing, cross country skiing and snowboarding. The only two sports in which Italy has no athletes in biathlon and wheelchair curling. Precisely that curling that made Italy rejoice with the gold won last month by the duo formed by Stefania Costantini and Amos Mosaner who managed to prevail against strong Norway for 7-5 in the final.
