Fasting for peace has been announced for 2 March, Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. To want this strong moment of reflection and commitment against war is Pope Francis who makes an appeal to the whole world. That of Holy Father it is a heartfelt invitation intended for believers and non-believers, for a unanimous plea for peace, to say 'no' to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that broke out in these hours.
Fasting day for peace
“I have a great pain in my heart for the worsening of the situation in Ukraine - declared the Pontiff - Despite the diplomatic efforts of the last few weeks, increasingly alarming scenarios are opening up. Like me, many people around the world are experiencing anguish and worry. Once again the peace of all is threatened by partisan interests ”.
The appeal
"I would like to appeal to those who have political responsibilities to make a serious examination of conscience before God - underlines Pope Bergoglio - who is the God of peace and not of war. The Father of all, not just of someone who wants us to be brothers and not enemies. I ask all the parties involved to refrain from any action that causes even more suffering to the populations, destabilizing coexistence between nations and discrediting international law ”.
"Jesus taught us that the diabolical senselessness of violence is answered with the weapons of God, with prayer and fasting. I invite everyone to do next March 2nd, Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting for peace. I especially encourage believers to devote themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war ".
