The Raffaele Piraino Costume Museum in Palermo, a rich display of period clothing and relics from other times. The space, which is private, holds thousands of objects that keep the memory of the past alive. From elegant dresses for ladies and knights, to military uniforms and ecclesiastical vestments. And so much more. A full immersion in what was the fashion of the past centuries with its lace, its lace, its richly finished accessories.
Auliche forme, the Piraino collection on display
There are about 5 thousand period clothes inside the museum that are part of the collection of Raffaele Piraino, painter and teacher of the history of costume. Not only clothes, of course, but also underwear and the inevitable accessories. An ancient world that showcases the elegant clothing it used a few centuries ago. However, there is no shortage of garments that recall the popular way of dressing. The clothes in the collection date back to a period that oscillates between the eighteenth century and the Nine hundred. The garments, coming from the trunks and wardrobes of ancient Sicilian families, are the mirror of the fashion of three centuries with all the sartorial influences dictated by the Parisian trends and other famous European capitals of the time. The precious collection can be visited inside the exhibition "Courtly forms“, On the occasion of the festival The Paths of Treasures, scheduled until next October 31st.
The Costume Museum, a destination for experts and scholars
Vintage clothes and accessories, which today we could define vintage, have always attracted the interest of fashion history enthusiasts. Just as students who want to try their hand at the modern universe of the world are fascinated by this ancient world fashion style. This confirms that a dress is not simply a dress but an object on which to 'baste' different lines of study and thought. From history to anthropology, from the socio-cultural to the aesthetic aspect, also passing through the ethical sense of the society of the past. Uses and customs rediscovered and valued so that they are handed down to posterity, thanks to the creations that today acquire a great value and emotional value.
