Michelle Cardelli

Today we want to present to the public a young illustrator, Michela Cardelli, who with her work and her talent is preparing to be one of the new faces of illustration in Italy and abroad.
Michela is currently very busy in various projects, but she still found the time to answer our questions.
When did you start drawing?
From an early age in kindergarten the teachers discovered that I was good at drawing
Which artists have influenced you?
I started mainly with manga (Japanese comics) and enjoyed drawing the fan arts of my favorite stories including those of Naoko Takeuchi, the author of the popular Sailor Moon series.
With experience and maturity I have developed a personal style.
Your favorite story?
Difficult to answer this question because I don't have a specific favorite story. There are many and in each one I can always find something interesting as a source of inspiration.
What do you currently do?
I work in the illustration and design sector dealing with various projects, including children books for the foreign market and design bags in fashion.
What do you think of the state of Italian publishing and in general of people's consideration of works of art?
Honestly, I have never followed the Italian publishing very much but based on my experience I have noticed a certain closure of mind on emerging artists trying to find an outlet as an illustrator and the market is quite firm. If you do not have a name or references it is very difficult to start and in Italy the concept of "visibility" is widespread without being paid if you are an unknown artist.
How do you see the situation of Italy in the future?
I hope to see a better future and that Italy will once again be a country of great opportunities
What would you do if you were in the premier's shoes in the morning?
It would be quite a difficult task, I honestly don't know what to do as I don't see myself in this role much. However, the first thing that comes to mind would be to lower taxes and encourage creativity.
What would you recommend to those who want to become a designer?
You have to hold on and always believe in your abilities. Determination helps a lot to accomplish goals and keep drawing.
