In the next few days, we will experience the peak of this period of unusually mild and sunny weather that is affecting much of the Italian peninsula, after a rainy start to October.
THE'"October", as experts call it, is offering a taste of unseasonable summer, with rising temperatures and stable atmospheric conditions thanks to the presence of a vast high pressure system. The heart of this anticyclone is located near the United Kingdom, but its influence extends as far as Italy, ensuring clear, pleasant days.
The term "ottobrata" has its roots in Roman tradition: back then, during these bright, warm days, it was customary to organize picnics and day trips to enjoy a little more sunshine before winter. This year, the scenario is repeating itself, with clear skies and a climate more reminiscent of spring than autumn.
Some weather disturbances are on the horizon
However, the weather will not remain perfectly stable everywhere.
Between Thursday 9th and Friday 10th October, a more humid coming from the west could alter the balance, giving rise to a weak low pressure area.
This disturbance, born between the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, will tend to move towards our major islands, bringing clouds and some rain, especially in Sardinia and, subsequently, in Sicily. However, it will be a worsening temporary. The good weather will last until Tuesday 14th - Wednesday 15th when a cold cyclonic vortex which will lower temperatures again.
