These days we are witnessing a rather unstable climate trend, with fluctuating temperatures creating a true "dual scenario." In some areas, heat prevails, while in others the climate remains cooler and often torrential rains.
Italian Weather: Late August with Summer Heat
But what is the weather situation in Italy and how will it evolve in the short term? Currently, our country is split in two meteorologically. The northern regions and part of central Italy are influenced by cooler and more humid Atlantic currents, which have temporarily put an end to the long heat wave experienced in recent weeks. This flow has also made the atmosphere more dynamic and volatile and unstable global landscape.
The situation is different in the South and on the major islands, where good weather continues to prevail, accompanied by warm temperatures but not particularly excessive.
Early next week, the arrival of a high pressure system will also favor an improvement in central and northern Italy, with more stable days and a gradual rise in temperatures. This will bring, until Tuesday the 26th, a return of summer-like conditions across much of the country, although temperatures will still be in line with the season.
Then comes the instability
The situation, however, won't remain stable for long. Between Wednesday the 27th and Thursday the 28th, Italy will be affected by former Hurricane Erin, which, after a long journey from the Caribbean, will reach Northern Europe as an extratropical storm. Its presence will cause two opposing effects: on the one hand, the influx of very warm air masses from North Africa will cause temperatures to soar again. South and on part of the Centro, with values well above the seasonal averages; on the other hand, the regions of North part they will be hit by stronger Atlantic currents, with a worsening of the weather and a sharp drop in temperatures between Thursday 28th and Friday 29th.
In short, we still have some busy days ahead, with Italy torn between renewed heatwaves and sudden returns of cool, inclement weather.
