A new disturbance is arriving from Europe and will bring gale force winds and thunderstorms also to the southern territories, which so far have been saved from the bad weather that has hit the northern regions so far.

While Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont are busy counting the damage caused by last weekend's storms, for today the Civil Protection has issued a yellow alert for nine regions: Veneto, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and parts of Tuscany, Calabria and Umbria. So even the southern territories will have to deal with the disruption arriving from central Europe. In Naples it has already been decided to close the parks, the northern pier of Bagnoli and to ban access to the city's public beaches

Disturbance coming

The Department of Civil Protection warns that strong winds will blow across Sicily from the early hours of the morning, then extending to Calabria, in particular on the Ionian canals and on the areas of the Strait of Sicily, with sea waves along the coasts.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Campania and Basilicata. Strong showers and local hailstorms are expected.

Damage in Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont

For the moment, however, attention is still focused on Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont, where the request for a state of natural disaster is ready to start. In Cogne and Cervinia we are trying to understand how much damage the bad weather caused in particular to commercial activities: mainly shops, bars, restaurants and garages on the central Via Carrel were affected.

Even in Piedmont, in the town of Macugnaga, in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, mud has flooded the roads, many of which are unusable.

Weather: state of alert also in Veneto

The most affected areas

Among the other affected areas there is also the province of Belluno, where a large landslide of mud and debris invaded the provincial road 347 of the Duran pass, in the municipality of Val di Zoldo. In Veneto there is therefore a 'state of attention'.

Torrents that transform into violent water bombs, landslides, houses torn off, hailstorms with large grains even more than 100 grams, these are the images that come from the North that leave us once again astonished and once again reveal our fragility in the face of events weather conditions of this magnitude and, more generally, to the enormous challenge of fighting climate change.

It is necessary that the interventions envisaged by the 2030 Agenda are put into practice in an immediate and conclusive manner, because the "before it is too late" is already underway.
