International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the speech by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella was very incisive and significant. On the occasion of this important anniversary, this is how the head of state: “Millions of people with disabilities fight for an independent life every day. And who teach us how to face difficulties with vital strength and great dignity: we owe them respect. The appreciation of the Republic today goes to their extraordinary families, to the volunteers and to the associations who are fighting for the affirmation of their rights”.

Below is Mattarella's statement: "The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established by theONU with the aim of promoting the rights and well-being of all those who live with a form of disability. This is a significant number of people, which is at risk of increasing as the population ages. Health, education, mobility, work, are rights that for people with disabilities represent the fruit of long battles paved with pain, mortification, sense of injustice and impotence, episodes of discrimination.
The inclusion of people with disabilities is proof of the full affirmation of human rights. Important advances in technology are helping to overcome the limitations that hinder the lives of disabled people, promoting their full participation. To be encouraged any progress in this direction to go beyond any barrier. Disabled people are a resource for the community and their participation in the life of society is precious”.
