The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, inaugurated the new school year at the Nautical Technical Institute of Pizzo Calabro. The event called "Everyone at school" took place in the school square in the presence of the Minister of Education Patricio Bianchi and many exponents of the world of culture and entertainment. Born as a nautical school in 1874, the Nautical Technical Institute of Pizzo is one of the oldest in Italy. It currently has about 500 students and, in over sixty years of activity, has formed leading professionals in the sector. Here, in fact, the first two Italian female ship engineer graduates in 1964.

The initiative, presented by Flavio Insinna and Andrea Delogu also recorded the presence of numerous artists who performed during the long afternoon in the square of the Calabrian institute. A real party that ideally marked the return to the stalls throughout Italy. A school that returns to normal, with lessons finally in attendance after two troubled years marked by the pandemic. Emergency which we tried to remedy with distance learning.

Mattarella: "School is oxygen for society"

“With schools, the threads that had been interrupted are reconnected, first of all the study, but also relationships and friendships. This transmits energy to our entire national community. The school is the oxygen of society, its functioning mirrors that of the country. We have a valuable school, thanks to teachers, staff, students, we know that there are aspects that need to be improved, we suffer from ancient delays, inefficiency, inequalities, there is no lack of skills to overcome them.

There have been recruitments, adequate classrooms and institutions at different levels have collaborated to reopen the schools. We need a strategic perspective with the PNRR to have a more modern school. This is the smartest and most profitable investment. The school is absolutely central. We need concrete commitments, adequate projects, assumptions of responsibility ". These are some of the considerations made by Mattarella during the “Tutti a scuola” event. “The school - remarked the head of state - was the first to have to close the doors, now thanks to vaccinations the closure of schools must no longer happen. The abandonment and disengagement of the children was contained by the teachers with the generous collaboration of classmates.

The expression of this solidarity constitutes a precious heritage. The great participation in the vaccination campaign of young people deserves attention. The school world has shown itself to be a great anti-virus. The school is the strongest barrier to the most destructive behaviors, and this makes the school the engine of social transformation. There are moments when you feel you are at a crossroads, you have to change pace, to go faster. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Republic - concluded Mattarella - I reminded you that you young people are the builders of the future. It will be a special year, a good school year ".
