The atmospheric calm that has accompanied most of the month is about to give way to a change of scenery: the Mediterranean will in fact be affected by a weather situation rather complex, destined to bring instability to several Italian regions.
After weeks dominated by high pressure and above-average temperatures, the balance will be disrupted starting from Monday 22 September. On that date, a disturbance Linked to a deep Atlantic vortex, it will enter our country, causing a marked deterioration in weather conditions. This type of configuration, known as an Atlantic trough, is a broad corridor of low pressure that pushes cold, unstable air from high latitudes toward milder regions. It is a typical autumn phenomenon and effectively marks the end of the long summer periods characterized by clear skies and persistent heat.
Rain in the Center and South
Once it reaches the Peninsula, the disturbance will tend to isolate itself from the original cold air, transforming into a so-called cold drop: an unstable nucleus that can generate widespread and locally intense precipitation. According to projections, it will be mainly the Central and Southern Italy are experiencing the greatest effects, with frequent rains and unstable weather conditions until the end of the month. September, therefore, is about to end with a decidedly more autumnal face, marking the end of the long reign of high pressure and the beginning of a more dynamic and variable phase.
