Il link between Italy and Argentina, especially in the last century, it has become very profound thanks to the large number of emigrants who left Italy to move overseas. It is estimated, in fact, that in the South American country more than 50% of the population has Italian origins or ancestors. The city where our local presence is greater is the capital Buenos Aires, and also the teams of football they often have Italian roots. Boca Juniors and the Velez Sarsfield, for example, they were founded by our fellow countrymen and the latter club has decided to pay homage to Italy with a shirt with our tricolor.

The Italian origin

In the past, Vélez Sarsfield had paid homage to our country with a uniform linked to the country of origin of its founders. This time, however, we wanted to do more. The club, in fact, has chosen a shirt with one plot with the Italian flag, calling her The True Italian. Also it club crest, for the occasion, it has returned identical to the original one, which recalled the flag of the Belpaese. The uniform, the alternative to the white and blue rectory, is made by Kappa. This Italian brand dresses, among others, i soccer players of important clubs in our country such as Turin and Naples. The choice of one Italian uniform wanted to be a tribute to the area that saw the birth of the company, Villa Luro and Liniers, which at the beginning of the twentieth century housed a very large local colony.

The shirt was worn on the occasion of the internal match with the Tiger. The debut, in reality, was not very lucky, as Vélez did not do justice to their audience and to the name of their stadium (renamed The fortin to celebrate their alleged inviolability) by losing two to one. The result, however, was only a marginal figure of one day of celebration which has seen an entire fan base celebrating its Italian origins.

A tricolor event

Allo stadium Jose Amalfitani, named after the historic president of the club, of clear homegrown origins, we saw, in fact, a real celebration of Italianness. In some sectors of the stadium it could be bought the pizza e the event was attended by the consul general of Italy Riccardo Smimmo, the consul of Buenos Aires Gianluca Guerriero, the president of the Comites of the capital Dario Signorini and other Italian institutional figures. During the course of the match lo speaker company officer also also spoke in Italian, while on social media all the posts have been written in our language.

An initiative, therefore, which sanctioned the will of Vélez Sarsfield of remember the foundation and the early years of the company, founded 109 years ago. Already six years after its birth, on March 14, 1916, the Vélez formalized the use of the Italian camiseta.
Finally, in the statement that the club issued before the game with the Tiger, it was written that maintain and strengthen a strong bond with the Italian community «it is a goal that has always motivated the club institutionally».
