Places accessible for wheelchair users, indicated by the blue symbol of Google Maps. An indication that allows the accessibility of 40 million places globally, including Italy; a service for 130 million wheelchair users.
Google Maps
By turning on the 'Accessible places' setting in the app Google Maps, a wheelchair icon will appear on a given business profile if the entrance is accessible, or a crossed out symbol if it is not. “To help you plan future trips – explains the Google team – you can see if a particular venue has accessible seating, restrooms and parking. Thanks to information provided by business owners and contributions from the Google Maps community, this feature can also be useful if you want to avoid stairs because you have a stroller, luggage or use a cart. Anyone can enter further details about the level of accessibility for casters by tapping on the business profile you wish to edit and then going to "Information" and then "Change characteristics".
Accessible places
'Accessible places' was born thanks to the support of over 120 million Local Guides and business owners from around the world, who have submitted over a billion wheelchair accessibility updates to the navigation platform. The feature was already present in Australia, Japan, UK and USA from 2020. In 2019, the "wheelchair accessibility" option had arrived in Italy, to view the accessible routes on Maps from a starting point to a destination, under the public transport menu item.
