Liza Minnelli: the Italian origins of an Oscar-winning diva
Like many other big US stars, Liza Minnelli also has Italian origins. Born in 1946, daughter of Judy Garland (The Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz of the 1939) and Vincente Minnelli, Liza has trod the stages of Broadway. Its debut dates back to 1963 (a 16 years), in the musical "Best Foot Forever". From there his career has been a continuous crescendo, between Tony Awards (for the theater), Grammy, emmys, Golden Globe and a Oscar Prize. The latter was received in 1973, for his starring role in the award-winning film Cabaret. In 1977 will be the protagonist of New York, New York di Martin Scorsese, next to Robert De Niro. This film, and the famous song (anthem of the city from 1985), will mark the career of the actress. Between ups and downs, due to the abuse of alcohol and drugs, Liza has nevertheless remained one of the brighter stars di Hollywood e Broadway.
Liza Minnelli is proud of her origins. Grandparents would have been born to Palermo (Old Village) and then emigrated to the United States. The father Vincente he was instead born in Chicago in a 1903. A little uncertainty reigns on the branch of the Minnelli family in Palermo. As reported Luciano Mirone in one of his articles published on La Repubblica of the 2002, in Palermo there is no document that demonstrates the bond of the Minnelli family from Borgo Vecchio to the artist. Furthermore, according to some (alleged) cousins, Vincente was even born in Palermo, but without official documents, this it is not verifiable. Despite this, Liza Minnelli is always tied to Italy and always comes back willingly. As he said to the microphones of Sky in 2008, when he came to our country to promote his tour "I am a Minnelli. In Italy I feel at home". Best wishes to "Voice of New York”With an Italian heart, with the hope of being able to see her soon in the Bel Paese.
