The journey of the officially started yesterday, April 4, 2025. first luxury train entirely designed and built in Italy: it is called “La Dolce Vita Orient Express” and it debuted from Rome’s Ostiense station with its first stop in Montalcino.

This is a project that combines Italian craftsmanship, the allure of slow travel and the timeless elegance of the iconic Orient Express brand. A new way of experiencing Italy, designed for a high-end international audience.

La Dolce Vita: an all-Italian project

An all-Italian project. The convoy was born from the collaboration between the Arsenale group and Orient Express, with the support of Fondazione FS Italiane and FS Treni Turistici Italiani. The aim is to enhance the Italian territory through an exclusive tourist experience, environmentally friendly and inspired by the spirit of la dolce vita. The train is the first of a fleet of six convoys, each designed to offer luxury travel on eight itineraries that cross fourteen Italian regions.

Which destinations for the new luxury train?

The itineraries designed for “La Dolce Vita Orient Express” touch legendary locations and lesser-known views, offering a multisensory journey through culture, nature and gastronomy. Among the most fascinating stops are Venice, Portofino, Siena, the stones of Matera, the vineyards of Montalcino and the suggestive truffle route towards Nizza Monferrato. Southern Italy is represented by a route that includes the Sicilian beauties of Catania, Palermo e Taormina. Each stop features personalized experiences, from visits to historic wineries to cultural excursions.

The new train with luxury interiors and starred cuisine

The interiors of the train are refined and offer comfort to travellers. The train is composed of thirty-one cabins: eighteen suites, twelve deluxe cabins and an exclusive suite called “La Dolce Vita”. The carriages, dating back to the 60s, have been completely restored at the CPL in Toast and the OMER of Carini, in Sicilia. The interior design, curated by Dimorestudio, blends the Italian aesthetics of the 60s and 70s with modern details and fine materials, creating an elegant, warm and enveloping atmosphere.

On board, the gastronomic offering is entrusted to one of the most prestigious names in the Italian cooking: Chef Heinz Beck, three Michelin stars. His menus, created specifically for each itinerary, tell the culinary traditions of the regions crossed, enhancing local and seasonal ingredients. The gastronomic experience will be central and will be enriched by a selection of excellent Italian wines. In an increasingly fast-paced world, La Dolce Vita Orient Express invites you to slow down and rediscover Italy with new eyes, between history, beauty and refinement. A dream on rails that starts from the heart of the Bel Paese to enchant the entire world.
