New York's Little Italies

New York is undoubtedly the city that hosts the most famous Little Italy. Little Italy in South America

The most famous Little Italy in South America is that of Buenos Aires, the capital ofArgentina. Here the Italian heritage is evident. The neighborhood of La Boca, famous for its colorful houses and tango, was one of the main areas of settlement of Italians, especially Genoese. There is no official “Little Italy”, but the Italian presence is palpable in the surnames, in the language and especially in the cuisine, with dishes that mix Italian tradition and local influences.

Remaining in South America, in São Paulo, in Brazil, the Italian community has left an even more marked mark. The Bixiga neighborhood is considered the Little Italy of the city. Here, every year the Feast of San Gennaro is celebrated, and the streets fill with stalls selling pasta, pizza and typical sweets. The Italian influence is also visible in the urban planning and gastronomic culture of the entire metropolis of São Paulo.

Today these neighborhoods are places of memory, but also of celebration and pride for millions of Italian descendants.
