An extraordinary story involved the municipal councilor for social services of Lecce, Andrea Guido, which was the protagonist of an extraordinary discovery that took place on the morning of Tuesday, December 17. While walking through the streets of the city, the councilor noticed a small sheet of paper on the ground that, at first glance, seemed to be a banal Christmas advertisement. The reality, however, turned out to be very different: that sheet of paper was in fact a bank draft for 49 million euros, intended for investment projects in the tourism sector of Salento.

“It was a completely casual find,” said Guido, visibly surprised by the discovery. The councilor, while walking, noticed the sheet of paper on the ground and, intrigued, picked it up before the wind could carry it away.

When he realized what it was, a flurry of calls began to track down the rightful owner, thanks also to the help of the owners of a shop in Lecce, near where the check was found.

Grant for the growth of tourism in Salento

The owner of the check, a well-known local entrepreneur who chose to remain anonymous, was extremely grateful for the honesty shown by the councilor. Thanks to Guido's timely intervention, the document was returned intact. The funds will be used to finance strategic investments in the tourism sector of Salento, one of the most loved and visited areas in Italy, with the aim of further enhancing the local offer and creating new opportunities for the territory.

This story has an almost fairy-tale feel, an extraordinary and fortunate tale that found its conclusion with a happy ending. Lecce, known for its splendid baroque architecture and its growing tourist development, yesterday was the protagonist of a gesture of great civic responsibility by one of its representatives.
