Aosta, Piacenza and Cagliari are the three provinces that win the Quality of Life challenge this year for as many age groups: children, young people and the elderly. Il Sole 24 Ore, like every year, analyzed the quality of life in Italian cities, declining the indices by age group. There was no shortage of surprises this year too.

Quality of life: general data from Italy

This time the ranking did not show huge differences between North and South as happened in the past. Let me be clear: the differences remain, but less marked. Just think that the ranking for Cagliari has won the best city suitable for young people. The general statistics between 2021 and 2022 are very interesting. In Italy there was an important one increase nursery schools (+ 5,49% compared to last year) very useful service for families. A very pleasant fact that makes us understand how the welfare state is making important steps forward. In Italy, the fertility index also grew, albeit little, from 1,24 in 2021 to 1,25 this year. On the other hand, the marriage ratio among young people has grown a lot, passing from 1,6 to 3. As well as growing by 4,04% also graduates. Among the elderly, the index relating to life expectancy rises by 1,5%. The growth of green urban spaces is also doing well.

Aosta is the best child-friendly city

La children's ranking (between 0 and 10 years) is overwhelmed by Aosta. The city of Northern Italy ranks first with a big gap from second place (almost 100 points difference). 596,9 points for Aosta, followed by Arezzo with 512,6 points and from Siena with 503,1 points. Tuscany comes out particularly well, with Florence also in the top five (fourth with 497,7 points). In fifth place, there is Udine with 485,8 points. Among the last places in the children's ranking, in this particular ranking, there are all southern cities: Reggio Calabria, Palermo, Matera, Caltanissetta and Foggia.

La youth ranking (18-35 years) instead, sees Piacenza in first place, followed by Ferrara, Ravenna, Vercelli, Cremona. In this case, the differences in score were minimal if it is true that the 5 cities all qualified with a difference of just 40 points between first and fifth. At the bottom of the youth ranking we find: Genoa, Taranto, Rome, Barletta, Andria, Trani and South Sardinia.

Cagliari best city in Italy for the elderly

In senior ranking (over 65), Cagliari qualifies in first place. And the result of Cagliari is not a swallow that makes spring since in the first 5 places there is also another Sardinian: Nuoro (fifth). Completing the top five are Bolzano, Trento and Rome, second, third and fourth respectively. In the last places, this time, all cities of the Italian north: Vercelli, Verbano, Lucca, Massa-Carrara and Pistoia.
