The Municipal School of Music founded by Adriano Casasole

For a long time, until the 70s, the teaching activity of the music school of Orvieto was managed by the town bandThis was concerned with the teaching of all instruments, not just wind instruments. Let us remember, for example, that the great maestro Dario Duranti, director of the Band and a fine composer, also taught classical instruments free of charge. The maestro Marino Mancinelli, Luigi's older brother, was the first director of theMusic Institute of the City of OrvietoAt the end of the nineteenth century it involved the School of Music, the orchestras of the Cathedral and the Theatre and the city band.

The birth of the Orvieto music school

At the end of the 70s the “Orvieto Project"represented a complex project of reclamation, enhancement, and redevelopment of the cliff. Safety measures were first implemented to consolidate the area. However, the project also included the restoration and enhancement of the historical and artistic heritage of the center. The goal was to culturally revitalize the entire city. It was in the wake of this cultural ferment that Adriano Casasole, a man of politics and culture, thought of establishing the Orvieto music school. He did so together with other important figures, including the former director Nello Catarcia, organist of the DuomoThe idea was to create a school that would not only have an educational function, but would also be a place of sharing where everyone, regardless of economic means, could access music education.

Orvieto, city of music

The director Alice Rohrwacher, who grew up in the Orvieto area, often makes use of the collaboration of current teachers and musicians for her soundtracks. To give just one example, it is thanks to the "La Panatella Company" that gave rise to the song "Corri Lazzaro," which serves as the backdrop to his latest film. In short, this is a school that, overcoming various obstacles and trying to meet all the demands that have arisen in recent years, dedicates all its resources to teaching and much more. All this thanks to a planned program and, above all, to the professionalism and availability of its teachers. Many students have graduated from the conservatory, always being able to count on a wide and varied choice of courses to take and the opportunity to have, in turn, a role within the school. modus operandi which does justice to the city that hosts important musical events such as Umbria Jazz and Easter Concert.

Orvieto Music School

An infinite love

The school therefore, which has had as president since October 2014 Gabriele Anselmi, has a working group whose dominant theme remains a love of music and constant dialogue with young people. We hope this dialogue will be fostered by favorable conditions that reward the commitment of the teachers and all those who have supported this institution thus far. Among them: Foundation of the Savings Bank and Municipality of Orvieto, who is a founding member. The violin recitals that yesterday saw the participation of the teachers, along with the students Dino Graziani e Richard Cambri, concluded this academic year in the Palazzo del Popolo. We sincerely hope that the school will soon be able to benefit from a dedicated space for all its initiatives.
