In the world there are nearly 500 metropolises, or urban nuclei with more than one million inhabitants. Thousands of square kilometers of concrete, with gray concrete dominating the whole panorama. The problem of these big cities has always been pollution, however in 2020 it will be realized in China the first forest city to the world. A real eco city, daughter of an all-Italian project.
Liuzhou Forest City: the forest city of tomorrow
A city of 30 thousand inhabitants, built entirely to be eco-sustainable and with zero impact: this is the challenge of Stefano Boeri, the Italian architect behind this huge project. Houses, schools, hospitals, offices and stations covered with plants and trees, just like in a fantasy scenario. This will allow the Chinese forest city to absorb tons of polluting fine particles, and to produce oxygen, improving air quality. But where will this marvel be built? North of Liuzhou, in the southern province of Guangxi.
Everything designed for this city will be in full respect of the environment. The connections will take place with a fast railway line, while on the streets only electric vehicles will be allowed to circulate. The energy will be produced exclusively with solar panels, wind turbines or using geothermal energy. The forest city will be home to over 40 trees and a million plants, from over 100 different species.
The pollution of large cities
The Forest City will be ready in a very short time (we are talking about by 2020). The reason for this hurry it is due to the current environmental situation in China. The Chinese metropolises are in fact considered among the most polluted in the world, and every year thousands of people fall ill due to poor air and water quality. This is mainly due to the economic boom that has hit the country in the last 20 years.
All urban centers have suddenly expanded, often not even taking into account the problems relating to pollution. In a particular way Beijing e Shanghai they turn out to be unlivable in some areas, with entire neighborhoods enveloped in smog most of the day. The government has been studying countermeasures for several years, with various cutting-edge projects in the field of combating pollution. And among these there is Stefano Boeri's forest city.
