The ancient village of Baunei

Baunei is in the heart of Ogliastra in the central-eastern area of Sardinia. It is a mountain village nestled between a limestone wall and a breathtaking coastal coastline. The urban agglomeration is practically surrounded by limestone ramparts that stand out around spectacular coves and beaches that are a true paradise.

In practice, mountains and sea are inextricably linked. The mixture of rock, uncontaminated nature, crystalline sea with iridescent reflections that oscillate from cobalt blue to emerald green is perfect. The rocky ridges overlooking the sea, the neighbor Supramonte, are the many 'faces' of Ogliastra between the coastal strip of the park of Gennargentu and the Gulf of Orosei.

The Supramonte and the Cala di Galoritzè

The historic center of the ancient village has around the Supramonte, a very popular location for hiking with its adventurous trekking paths that go from the mountains to the sea. And then there are also the vertical walls for lovers of sport climbing. From the highest part of the village you can enjoy a unique and suggestive view that extends over the jagged coastal strip.

But whoever visits Baunei cannot fail to take a bath in the splendid waters of Cala Goloritzè, a true national monument. It is a place that will delight you with its underwater springs, its rocks that look like sculptures and its brightly colored vegetation.

From cove to cove

The coast of Baunei is also scattered with coves which are very popular destinations for international tourism. Let's talk about, for example Cala Mariolu and, again, of Cala dei Gabbiani, characterized by a clear sea of a thousand shades. And with immaculate beaches where the sand acquires the shades of pink. Very beautiful too Cala Sisine located in the bed of an ancient river bed with many secular trees around it.

And then how not to remember Cala Luna (divided in half with the territory of Dorgali), also a particular place for the calcareous craters that almost seem to circumscribe the marine waters in an ampoule. From the mountains to the sea, the landscape of Baunei is a natural habitat for very rare species and is also an open-air archaeological museum. Among the many finds found some vestiges of the millenary Nuragic civilization which constitutes an inestimable treasure of art and culture for Sardinia and for the history of the peoples of the Mediterranean.
