Italians, a people of saints, poets, navigators, artists and great inventors, but also of migrants and travelers. In fact, many of our most beautiful stories have always started away from home. Whether it is for work, study or a simple desire to discover new cultures, to the Italic people the courage to start a new life in a foreign land is certainly not lacking.
A people of travelers
One of the most marked traits of our history certainly concerns emigration. Between the end of the nineteenth century and up to the middle of the last century, millions of Italians have sought their fortune elsewhere. It is estimated that between 1861 and 1985 over 18 millions of people they left the country, spreading over the five continents. A phenomenon that has allowed our culture and our traditions to be spread all over the world. Many cities, not surprisingly, can boast entire neighborhoods often known as Little Italy, little Italy. Some countries even have part of their population pure Italian blood. In Argentina, for example, over a third of Argentines can boast Italian relatives.
What does this entail? Many of our traditions, uses and customs have rooted and mixed with other cultures, amplifying the charm of the Made in Italy. In fact, art, cuisine, fashion, music and style see their maximum splendor in the Italian model. But behind all this there are first the people, the Italians, our compatriots who are often forced - for various reasons - to leave their homeland.
Become the network of Italians in the world
The migratory flows that characterized Italy immediately after unification are very different from those we see today. Nowadays, the Italian economic condition is certainly not like it was 150 years ago, and if we know someone who has decided to try their luck elsewhere he did it more out of choice than out of extreme necessity. In the past, however, entire families were almost forced by precarious working, social and economic conditions. United States, South America, Central Europe and Australia are the favorite destinations of our grandparents' generation and the one even before. Millions of Italians scattered around the world, in search of their Eldorado without ever forgetting their origins, their values and their traditions.
Over time this phenomenon has subsided, almost reversed, but as already mentioned today there is no shortage of stories of those who decide to venture elsewhere. Beautiful, often touching, stories of Italians who - starting from scratch - they create something unique and special. True Italian excellences, which show the world our ability to succeed everywhere.
we at italiani.it we want to tell you these success stories. We dream of being a point of reference for those who are far from home, but wants to feel closer. But above all we want to become the first large network of Italians in the world!
