The Comites are representative bodies of the Italian community, directly elected by compatriots residing abroad in each consular district where at least three thousand registered compatriots reside.. The Comites, which has relations with the local authorities and the Italian authorities, acts as a link between all the Italians who live in the various countries abroad and Italy.

Buenos Aires is the most important Comites in the world by number of members.
