The World Organization of States – International Parliament for Safety and Peace (WOS-IPSP) recently reaffirmed its commitment to people-centered international cooperation. In this context, Father Marco Baragli, a priest of the Anglican Communion and the new Counsellor for International Cooperation, shared his vision for the organization's role and future prospects.

Father Baragli, WOS-IPSP speaks of "people-centered international cooperation." How do you interpret this principle?

For me, it means starting with listening. Every path to authentic development begins with recognizing the dignity of individuals and communities.
Cooperation cannot be a theoretical exercise: it must be rooted in real life, in the concrete needs, fragilities, and potential of territories.
As Ambassador Maiolese often reminds us, our mission is to build bridges that put people, not structures, at the center."

What is the specific contribution of WOS-IPSP in this global scenario?

«WOS-IPSP operates as a platform for dialogue and collaboration between governments, local institutions, civil society and academia.
Our job is to facilitate processes that improve access to essential services, education, health and sustainable economic opportunities.
Ambassador Maiolese often emphasizes how our strength lies in our ability to unite very different realities, creating alliances that respect local cultures and enhance the expertise present in the territories."

You've been appointed Advisor for International Cooperation. What will your priorities be?

«My role will be to contribute to the definition of cooperation strategies and the coordination of projects in the field.
I bring with me the experience gained in training, community leadership, and intercultural dialogue.
I deeply believe that cooperation is an act of mutual responsibility.
In this sense, constant dialogue with Ambassador Maiolese is invaluable: his diplomatic experience allows us to translate the communities' needs into concrete institutional paths."

What challenges do you see on the horizon for international cooperation?

«We live in a world affected by complex crises: social, economic, environmental.
The challenge is to respond in a coordinated, humane, and far-sighted way.
WOS-IPSP will continue to promote social cohesion, institutional stability and sustainable development paths.
As Ambassador Maiolese reminds us, our task is to keep channels of dialogue open even when the international context seems fragmented.
Only in this way can we build a future that leaves no one behind."

What is the vision you wish to carry forward within WOS‑IPSP?

«A vision founded on dignity, inclusion and shared responsibility.
I believe in a cooperation that does not impose models, but accompanies processes.
A cooperation that recognizes the value of communities and supports them in becoming protagonists of their own development.
It is a vision that I fully share with Ambassador Maiolese and the entire WOS-IPSP leadership.»
