Allowing dogs into the office to improve the working climate and company productivity. In this regard, an investigation conducted by swg and commissioned by Mars Group, which in Italy is represented by the companies Mars, Royal Canin and AniCura, has brought out more than positive data in this sense. In fact, at least two out of three dog owners would like to be able to enjoy the company of their four-legged friend even in the office (64%). Furthermore, almost half of them believe that companies should organize themselves for this purpose (48%).
Data presented ahead of World Animal Day
The data from the survey, called “Pet-friendly offices in today's post-pandemic era”, were presented as part of the workshop “Pet Vibes, Better Office” which took place in Milan, in the Mars offices. At the event, conceived in view of World Children's Day animals on October 4th, the day dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, more than 42 other local companies and institutions were present. The Mars group, which has been working to encourage the adoption of pet-friendly policies for years, continues to propose new ideas and open debates on the topic.
The results of the survey
The survey data shows that many people wish to be able to share their working hours with their dog at their side. Even companies, which is not negligible, would benefit in terms of performance on the part of the employees themselves. In fact, half of the workers (dog owners and otherwise) believe that the presence of the four-legged friends would improve the overall mood of the office (47%); would reduce stress (42%); would encourage opportunities to connect with colleagues (40%). Other benefits include: greater creativity (31%) and productivity (27%); a more attractive company from an employer branding perspective (30%).
Investigation yes, but the reality is still far away
However, despite this, reality still remains far from these data. In fact, only in one case out of 10 is it possible to let your dog into the office. The Mars Group is an exception. The company, in fact, offers its employees the opportunity to bring their dog with them to the office. “Our four-legged friends,” he said Yesim Birds, CEO of Mars Italia and general manager of the Mars Southern Europe region – in addition to now being part of the family, they make us feel happier, healthier and safer every day. But what do we do for them?”.
“Adopting pet-friendly policies, opening the doors of the offices to our dogs – added the manager – has a great impact on the well-being of people, but not only that. It also has positive effects for the company itself, which will be more appreciated for its ability to offer an innovative working environment, more attentive to work-life balance and the needs of its associates". The company's commitment does not stop at the offices. The Mars program is to make Milan and other cities more welcoming to animals and owners.
