"Finally, after months of studying and testing the route, I am pleased to announce the inauguration of the Rome - San Felice Circeo itinerary to be covered by bike": so he wrote a few days ago on Facebook Andrew Nataloni, announcing the birth ofbike itinerary Rome - San Felice Circeo. A path that he himself, together with the photographer Andrea Romagnoli, helped to be born. And which now connects the sea to the hills, rivers to lakes. In that crescendo of beauty typical of our Italy.
How the Rome - San Felice Circeo bike route was born
Inaugurated on Sunday 29 August, the Rome - San Felice Circeo cycling itinerary is the story of a friendship. Of a group of friends in love with their land, and two wheels, eager to offer a safer and shorter alternative to the itineraries that exist to date. To get from Rome to San Felice Circeo, in fact, cyclists today climb along theAppia and come down from Castelli Romani. Or they pedal along the whole coastal road. Andrea Romagnoli, after months of studying maps and practical tests, has created a alternative route. More practical, first of all, but also more suggestive, exciting, engaging. The next step? The intervention of the Local Administrations, to improve the itinerary in some of its sections.
The route, moreover, crosses splendid panoramas: the sea and the mountains, the lake areas, the Circeo National Park with its biodiversity, up to medieval village of San Felice Circeo. Soon its creators will establish a partnership with Circeo associations that try to defend the promontory from mass tourism, in favor of sustainable and respectful tourism. These associations are involved in projects such as the defense of the school in the historic center of San Felice Circeo, or the reopening of access to the sea in Sabaudia near the villa that belonged to Alberto Moravia.
The path
The Rome - San Felice Circeo bike route touches, among others, the following points of interest:
- the wood of Armellino
- the pine forest "La Campana"
- the Sughereta Pomezia
- The Tre Cancelli wood - Sources
- astura tower
- the Fogliano lake
- the lake of the Monks
- the Caprolace lake
- the Lake of Paola
- the Unesco Biosphere Wood
As the Facebook page of the Anna Magnani Itinerary reminds us, it is good to underline that today it is not an official route. It is indeed a amateur itinerary, to be traveled under one's own responsibility. And to face if you love a sweet and experiential tourism, in contact with nature and involving landscapes. Furthermore, a cycle route cannot even be definitive (the stretches of territory crossed are not suitable for that status). However, it is a magical, unusual, calm itinerary. To discover a slightly different Rome with its water and green surroundings.
