A more unique than rare idea. The wine Italian is ready to fly into space. Yes, they were delivered in Rome by the Italian sommelier foundation, of the cuttings of Nebbiolo, Sangiovese e Aglianico to the Italian Space Agency (ASI). In this way, an in-orbit experimentation project will be launched. The noble objective of the project is not only the nutrition of the astronauts, but also the study for the production of plants and food in zero gravity.

The three wines were not chosen at random: in fact they represent the North, the Center and the South of Italy. Nebbiolo was born in the North West of Italy and still today the region that produces most of it is Piedmont. Sangiovese, on the other hand, represents the wines of central Italy: it was born in Tuscany and the growing regions are the Marche, Umbria, Emilia Romagna and, in fact, Tuscany. Finally, Aglianico is a wine from Southern Italy: it is found mainly in the provinces of Avellino and Benevento in Campania, but it is also produced in Basilicata. The vine Aglianico to have the best results it prefers volcanic soils, present in these southern territories.

Infinite space, eternity of wine

The meeting, during which the cuttings of the three Italian wines were delivered, is now in its fifteenth edition and is entitled "Infinite space, eternity of wine". It was held at the Rome Cavalieri, it happened with the holding of the Wine Culture Forum. The meeting was dedicated to the late Italian journalist, TV presenter and politician David Sassoli.

During the meeting, the timing of the start of the experimentation project of the wine in the space. The president of the Italian space agency Giorgio Shoulderbag, explained to Ansa: "the experimentation project on wine is part of the astronaut nutrition trend, for the production of food and for obtaining useful scientific results. It would be nice to drink a glass of wine in space, produced in orbit".
