A few weeks ago we told you about R1, the robot created by the Italian Institute of Technology and presented at the Maker Faire in Rome. A latest generation robot capable of providing continuous assistance to the elderly and disabled.
Also from the IIT, through the company Moving Technology, another drone was born that in these days is capturing the attention of engineers from all over the world: Hunova.
Hunova: the robot nurse
When we think of a robot we immediately imagine a set of valves and circuits assembled to look like humans. Hunova however is not an android, and her appearance will remind us of everything except human. It is in fact a robotic platform used for neurological, orthopedic and geriatric rehabilitation. But in what way?
Hunova uses the latest generation technology that allows it to assist the patient in the various stages of care. Its system perfectly combines two essential elements: review e rehabilitation.
Once on board of Hunova, the sensors analyze our movements during the set exercises. Position of the trunk, limbs, released power and rhythm are constantly monitored, intervening if necessary. In fact, Hunova will help us to complete all the exercises, in case of excessive effort. Furthermore, thanks to its mobile platform, therapies are possible for pathologies concerning joint balance or mobilization.
Obviously the engineers have also thought about the mental and motivational aspect. A touchscreen panel allows us to monitor the treatment, but also to access gods Gaming e tactile biofeedback. In this way you will have a greater involvement in the activity carried out, and the exercise will be less stressful.
Already in use
Hunova is already employed in several hospitals. For weeks, the Galliera Hospital in Genoa, the Santa Corona in Pietra Ligure (SV), the Rehabilitation Center in Volterra (PI) and the Riattiva Center in Lavagna (GE) have been using the robotic platform regularly for various therapies. Lately it has also been bought by the Korian Group who assigned him to the Falciani nursing home in Florence. The first facility of its kind to use Hunova services for the care of the elderly.
Several months after her first employment, Hunova has collected many positive reviews and the approval of doctors and physiotherapists. His work integrates perfectly with the most common therapies, greatly accelerating the rehabilitation processes.
In short, a great achievement, which testifies to the importance of the eternal link between technology and medicine.
