Nonino and the 100 Falstaff points, an all-Italian recognition
Falstaff, the leading magazine in the food and wine-tourism sector in German-speaking countries, with its Spirit Competition awarded for the first time in history an Italian distillate with 100 points: Gran Riserva Nonino 27 Years - ÙE® Monovitigno® Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Millesimata 1988. Nonino grappa was aged on 9 August 1989, and was then withdrawn on March 17, 2017 after years of storage in fine oak barrels. The 505 700 ml ampoules, obtained from aging, have an intense amber color and golden reflections. Othmar Kiem and Simon Staffler, the Falstaff experts who tasted it, described it as follows: “On the nose a slight hint of fragrant cedar wood slightly balsamic than initially reminiscent of dried citrus and dried figs, dates, tobacco and a hint of white chocolate. Intense on the palate, it is extremely complex and enveloping, of great finesse and elegant flavor, very persistent ".
The 100 Falstaff points are not the first recognition for the Friulian company (the headquarters are in Percoto, in the province of Udine). On January 27, 2020, the Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards, the most important international Wine & Spirits award. A reality of ambitious and passionate women, who knew "contribute significantly to the growth of the Italian economy by enhancing Made in Italy in the world".
The history of the distillery
Nonino has been practicing the art of distelleria since the end of the nineteenth century. The activity began in 1897 with Orazio Nonino, who will be replaced by Luigi, Antonio, Benito with Giannola, Cristina, Antonella, Elisabetta and Francesca Nonino. In reality, in 1897 Orazio established the Ronchi di Percoto headquarters. The distillery already existed, in the form of a traveling alembic. Then, in 1928, Antonio married Silvia Milocco (the first grappa maker in Italy) and the distillery moved to Pecoto. Amaro Carnia was born in 1933, Aperitivo Bianco Nonino in 1940, Amaro del Friuli in the 1973s. The revolution came in XNUMX, when Benito and Giannola changed the way of producing and presenting the grappa in Italy and in the world. Thus was born the Monovitigno® Nonino. Years of innovation, success and new creations followed. Up to today's 100 Falstaff points.
