Friends of the Casale: the story of a spontaneous committee

Born from a group of "Casalini" (who were born or still live in the Casale, the ancient area of the town) with the aim of re-evaluating the ancient village of Conflenti, The Friends of the Casale has been working in our small center for four years now. We asked a few questions to Roberto Marotta, one of the casalini in question.

When was the Friends of Casale association founded?

It was founded in 2015 by a group of Casalini. Given the area's neglect, we thought we'd do something to revive life in the neighborhood, which was more neglected than other parts of town. The idea came from myself, Franco Marotta, Albino Gentile, Adriana Palermo, who is an adopted Casalini, Mario Calipari, the former butcher, Pasquale Floro, Paolino Carino, and Tonino Mastroianni. Antonio Calipari and other friends joined shortly after.

What events did you deal with?

The first two years, we focused primarily on rediscovering the village. We first organized two summer events. "A Stroll in the Village" was a success. We found warehouses that people lent us. We took on the responsibility of emptying and cleaning them. We then performed traditional trades. Shoemaker, carpenter, and basket weaver are the first that come to mind. We also set up an ancient loom that can still be visited. In this context, each evening was accompanied by music and traditional tastings. Grispelle, pasta 'e surache, potatoes and pee, potatoes 'e vajane, accompanied the journey through the village in a succulent way.

And “Nativity Scenes in the Village”?

Since the summer event is very demanding to organize, we focused on nativity scenes. Local and international artists have adorned the old warehouses with their masterpieces, using unique materials. To name a few, Marco Mastroianni, Antonio Calipari, Pasquale Floro, Nicola Nicolazzo, and Angelo Paola. The idea is original. During the Christmas season, we witness many important nativity scenes in the area, but also beyond our region. living nativity scenesWe wanted to change our minds and set up the nativity scene, just like they do at home.

In this case too, does the itinerary start from the Church of Loreto?

Yes. The path is lit by torches and “heated” by braziers located between the various vineddre. Furthermore, Christmas music is played over a public address system, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Throughout the visit, you'll also have the opportunity to sample delicious treats. to cujjientare.

What importance does the village have for the country?

I think ours was a very fortunate intuition. When we started talking about it, that area was virtually unfrequented. I must say that after we got involved, it attracted everyone's attention. Several events were subsequently organized at Casale. Something more concrete has occurred since the Municipal Administration, together with Professor Grandinetti, undertook the project to reclaim the area. village. It will certainly yield better results than our idea.
