National day in memory of the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella addressed a message to the nation underlining: “In memory of the victims we bow. The date of March 18, 2020 remains engraved in the memory of the Italians. An image, that of the military vehicles that transported the victims killed by a virus then still unknown to Bergamo, which contained the drama of the entire pandemic. In memory of the victims we bow. The entire national community is recognized in the pain of their families ”.
Day in memory of the victims of Covid
For Mattarella, “the bewilderment in the face of such an insidious threat quickly gave way to a tenacious reaction, made up of courageous collective choices and shrewd individual behavior. A reaction that allowed us to face an unprecedented challenge in the recent history of humanity.
The Republic - continues on head of state - is strongly committed to guaranteeing the rhythms of a renewed life in our community. Of course, without forgetting the lesson of what happened. On this symbolic day that Parliament has chosen to establish, we have the opportunity to remember the many who are no longer there. And, at the same time, the contribution of those who have contributed to the safeguarding of collective health, to the functioning of essential services ".
Thanks to those who have been at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic
“Scientists and researchers, doctors, nurses, health personnel, public administrators. Women and men of the Civil protection, military and police forces, volunteers, have constituted a cornerstone on which we have been able to count. To all of them - highlighted Mattarella - our gratitude goes. The spirit of sacrifice, the awareness of feeling responsible for one another, which the vast majority of our fellow citizens have shown they possess, constitute a precious heritage. They are a source of wealth for the challenges that the country has to face. A heritage not to be lost ".
