Today, March 27, World Theater Day is celebrated; an anniversary born in Vienna in 1961 during the IX world congress of the International Theater Institute. World Theater Day
The International Theater Institute (Iti) was born in 1948 at the behest of UNESCO and thanks to great personalities from the world of culture and entertainment. It is the most important international non-governmental organization in this particular sector. The ITI has the task “of encouraging international exchanges in the field of knowledge and practice of the arts of the stage.
And, again, to stimulate creation and expand cooperation between theater people. Just as it undertakes to raise public awareness on the value of artistic creation in the field of development". In addition, the ITI, by supporting theatrical production, encourages the commitment to consolidate the peace and friendship between peoples. A mission in line with the objectives and values pursued byUnesco
An international message
Every year, on the occasion of March 27, a personality from the world of theater or in any case an illustrious figure from the world of culture is called to pronounce one of his thoughts. A reflection that becomes an international message translated into many languages and recited in all the theaters of the planet.
The writer Jean Cocteau was the author of the first international message in 1962. The actress Helen Mirren instead he delivered the message of 2021. After two years of global pandemic, the common hope is that the theater, one of the sectors most penalized by the health emergency, will shine with renewed splendor. Artists and professionals look to the full and complete revival of the stage arts as a restart of ideas and projects, among the basic elements for the socio-cultural revival of our globalized society.
