Fashion also wanted to give a strong signal to tragic facts that are affecting the Ukrainian population. Now in its final fashion shows, the Milan Fashion Week has seen among its latest protagonists Luisa Spagnoli, DSquared2, Laura Biagiotti and Giorgio Armani. And the latter decided to make his contribution with a symbolic gesture.
Giorgio Armani, the gesture towards Ukraine
No music and no celebrations at the parades: these are the wishes of king of fashion Giorgio Armani. Just like two years ago, when he was the first to take the decision to cancel the show to protect the insiders from contagion from Covid-19, this year too "King George" took the initiative with a strong and respectful decision towards of the Ukrainian people. He did it with a message, sent in English just before the Milanese brand's show: “My decision to don't use the music on the show was taken as a sign of respect for the people involved in the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine ". This message was followed by a warm applause from the people present in the room.
Moreover, in a moment like the one we are experiencing, silence has moved more than any music. An emotion visible on the faces of the models, as well as on those of the people who attended the show. Following the show, Giorgio Armani explained to reporters: "A few hours earlier I thought about what I could do about what happens. It is not sending money or clothes, but report my heartbeat for these children". Armani's gesture was intended to be his stance towards the war in progress, but also a sign of respect and sharing. Sensation strengthened by the presence in the hall of the senator for life Liliana Segre, who expressed her desire to participate in the Armani fashion show after meeting him at the first of the Scala.
