Il Gigi Proietti Globe Theater Silvano Toti di Rome has reopened the new season with a timeless Shakespearean classic, that is Romeo e Giulietta. It is a very important show for the restart after the blockade of the theater due to the pandemic, as this version of the drama bears the signature of Gigi Proietti. The 2021 season it was in fact dedicated to the recently deceased Roman master, as announced by Carlotta Proietti, daughter of Gigi, before the start of the show. The director is located Loredana Scaramella, former collaborator of Proietti. The role of the two protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, was instead entrusted to the actors Matthew Vignati e Mimosa Campironi. After the premiere, the 30nd June, the show will be repeated until 25th July, from Wednesday to Sunday.

The choice to start again with Romeo and Juliet is not accidental. The beloved showman, passed away in November 2020, is inextricably linked to the Shakespearean drama. The first show was staged during the inauguration of this Elizabethan-style theater inside Villa Borghese (in 2003) it was just "Romeo e Giulietta" with the directed by Gigi Proietti. That of the performer is a "modern" version of the Shakespearean drama, in which the imprint of the brilliant Roman director is very strong. Despite this the plot and characterization of the characters are very faithful to the original work. Hence the great success that this representation has had over the years.
Gigi Proietti was the artistic director of the theater (perfect replica of the Globe Theater in London) For 17 years, from the opening until his death. The only show he interpreted, besides directing it, was theEdmund Kean di Raymund FitzSimons. Even if the absence of "Mandrake"Is very strong, the Gigi Proietti Globe Theater still has a great future ahead of it, thanks to the work of the many artists and entertainment workers who will carry forward the ideas and innovative vision that the master had of the theater. Although the 2021 season has just begun (in memory of the great showman), a great success of critics and audiences.
