When we think of Ireland, the first city that comes to mind is definitely Dublin, as in addition to being the capital where the major multinationals flock, it is the largest and most populated city on the island.
I personally always recommend, to those who want to take a holiday in Ireland of about a week, to visit other characteristic cities such as Galway or Cork for example.
On this occasion I decided to tell you about the city of Galway which I always return to visit with great pleasure. The city overlooks the sea and is home to a lively university, which is why most of the inhabitants are young students.

Very different from Dublin, Galway is a bubbling city that offers a huge calendar of festivals and events all year round, such as the renowned Galway International Arts Festival and Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival.

You should know that Galway for many travelers is the starting point for visiting its beautiful surroundings. In fact, from here you can reach the famous cliffs Cliffs of Moher, the wilds of the Connemara, And the Aran Islands.
A tip: if you have little time available, choose only one itinerary to do among these, as one day to visit everything is not enough. Galway looks like a small city so visiting it in one day is certainly possible.

In this list I have collected the best attractions that you must not miss if you decide to spend a day in this picturesque city.

- Eyre Square

I recommend starting the tour of the city from this square. Eyre Square is in fact the vibrant heart of the city where you will find numerous clubs, restaurants, bars, but also the best shops to buy the characteristic products of the place.

- Dillon's Claddagh Gol Museum

This small museum is dedicated to the birth, cultural history and creation of the famous Claddagh Ring, the traditional Irish engagement ring born right here in the town of Galway.

- Lynch Castle

Strolling through the streets of the city you come across this castle, once the residence of the most powerful family in the city, Lynch precisely. Built in the XNUMXth century, this castle features a facade decorated with sculptures and coats of arms of the family and King Henry VII. It is currently considered to be one of the most beautiful city castles in Ireland.

- The market in front of Nicholas Collegiate Church

During the weekend in front of this medieval church from 1320, the picturesque market of handicrafts and food is held. Here you can buy delicious souvenirs and taste local dishes in a totally relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.

- Nora Bernacle House Museum

Along the narrow street of Bowling Green you will find a somewhat nondescript house. It is the smallest house in the city, now restored and converted into a museum. This house once belonged to Nora Bernacle, life partner of the Irish writer James Joyce.

- Walk along the Salthill Promenade

Take a refreshing stroll along Salthill, a residential neighborhood right on the sea.
According to tradition, at the end of the walk you have to kick the wall to thank good luck.

I have included the city of Galway in my new one guide online where you will find useful information for an itinerary to do everything on the road.

The online guide that presents the southern itinerary, you can find it on  Amazon to a link other than the one published in Previous post.
