That fourteenth century painting in Padua was special, it had been known for years. Now, however, official recognition has arrived: his entire pictorial cycle has entered the Unesco world heritage list. And the news was also commented by Mario Draghi.
Fourteenth-century painting in Padua is a world heritage site
Fourteenth-century painting in Padua is an extraordinary artistic testimony. Saturday 24 July, at 15.27 pm (when in the Chinese Fuzhou it was 21.27 pm), Padova Urbs picta has been proclaimed a world heritage site. A very prestigious recognition for the so-called "Cycle of frescoes from the XNUMXth century in Padua", Which includes monuments that are symbolic of Italian art:
- la Scrovegni Chapel
- the church of the Eremitani
- the Palazzo della Ragione
- the Carrarese Palace
- the Baptistery of the Duomo
- the Basilica of Sant'Antonio
- the Oratory of San Giorgio
- the Oratory of San Michele
Thus, in that Padua already on the UNESCO list because of his Botanical Garden, a long list of buildings has been added to its places to be protected and handed down. After all, the Scrovegni Chapel envies the whole world a little. And it's not hard to believe. Frescoed by Giotto between 1303 and 1305, it is counted among the masterpieces of Western art. It contains masterpieces such as the kiss between Anna and Joachim, the first ever represented in the history of art, and an incredible Last Judgment.
"The proclamation of the fourteenth-century fresco cycles of Padua as a Unesco World Heritage Site is reason for joy and pride for the whole country. I congratulate all the authorities and administrations who have contributed to achieving this important result”Commented Mario Draghi. "Padova Urbs picta is a Unesco world heritage site! A recognition that consecrates her to the Olympus ofand the most important art cities in the world. I've always believed in it. It is a victory for us and for Italy”Echoed Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, president of the Senate. While Luca Zaia praised the whole of Veneto, calling it "land of rare intensity, where extraordinary natural beauties and wonders of art and architecture are combined".
Recognition also for Montecatini Terme
Not only the painting of the fourteenth century: also Montecatini Terme has become part of the World Heritage Sites. "Montecatini Terme, which is part of a transnational candidacy “The Great Spas of Europe” together with 7 other states, is an example of a unique Italian spa system, to be protected and enhanced. The award is the result of a demanding journey undertaken by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality”Commented Lucia Borgonzoni, Undersecretary for Culture.
The committee has chosen to include Montecatini among the world heritage because the great spas of Europe represent an exceptional testimony of thermal tourism in Europe, starting from the eighteenth century and up to the thirties of the twentieth century. Because of its wonders, Italy is therefore the country with the highest number of Unesco heritage sites. And we can only be proud of it.
