La reform of the highway code is bringing news for everyone, drivers, motorcyclists and aspiring ones. After approval by the Chamber, the text has reached the Senate which should approve it by the end of April and become law in May or June, if there are no changes to be added.
Among the various innovations that will be introduced with the new highway code, there are important ones updates that also concern new drivers and the procedures for issuing the pink slip.
The watchword of the reform is "road safety". Improving road education limits accidents that every year are counted in thousands on our roads and this is why stricter rules will be introduced for those who are about to take the B license.
Pink slip, what changes with the new highway code
With the reform of the highway code, the pink sheet, which authorizes practice driving for six months, will be issued only after having completed the mandatory practical tests and no longer after passing the theory test alone, regardless of whether the mandatory practical tests were completed at the driving school.
In practice, the pink slip will be issued only after having completed the minimum number of exercises required by law, which, to date, is 6 mandatory hours, but it is not excluded that the number of tests will be increased. And in any case. It will be the driving schools, after the instructor's positive opinion, to authorize independent exercises, while waiting to take the final exam.
Another novelty concerns the holders of a pink slip for obtaining the AM, A1, A2 and A driving licences, which prohibit the transport of one or more passengers on mopeds and motorcycles. Anyone who violates this rule will be punished with a fine of 100 euros which it will concern both the driver and the passenger.
What's new for new drivers?
As is known, the novice drivers they cannot drive cars that exceed a certain power limit, nor cars with internal combustion engines with specific power, referred to the tare, greater than 55 kW/t and maximum power equal to or greater than 70 kW, let alone electric or plug-in hybrid cars with a specific power exceeding 65 kW/t.
With the new reform, however, newly licensed drivers will be able to drive vehicles with specific power exceeding 75 kW/to cars with power not exceeding 105 kW. In this case there will be an increase in the length of the limitation period from one to three years.
The new rule, obviously, will only affect driving licences obtained after the new Highway Code came into force.
Who intends to achieve the B driving licence will have the pink slip, but it will have to first practice outside the city and on the highway and at night with a professional from a driving school. After a certain number of hours, set by other decrees, the driving school will issue a special certification, which will allow you to practice with friends and family.
The trade associations Confarca and Unasca are in favour of these changes, because they are convinced that they will improve road safety.
