The international guests of de CONVERSATIONS the festival directed by Antonio Monda and Davide Azzolini which this year reaches its 17th edition. From 24 June to 3 July, an appointment at 19:00 in Piazzetta Tragara with six meetings for two consecutive weekends, 24, 25 and 26 June and 1, 2 and 3 July, in addition to three appointments at Villa San Michele in Anacapri. thanks to the collaboration with the Villa San Michele Foundation on 28 and 29 June at 19.00.
Betrayal / Betrayal will be the theme of 2022: from adultery to infidelity in friendship, from betrayal of ideals to religious faith, from trust in institutions to loyal relationships between two people, from the most famous betrayals in history to cinema and literature that sometimes they propose translations that are far from the original. Antonio Monda will share the different aspects of betrayal with the guests of Conversations 2022, with the aim of deepening the reflection on an eternal theme such as the history and fragility of human beings.
Protagonists of this edition 2022 a Capri and Anacapri in conversation with Antonio Monda will be: Atticus Lish (24/6), Rachel Eliza Griffiths (25/6,) Leah Hager Cohen (26/6), Marina Sagona (27/6) Eraldo Affinati (28/6), Charmaine Wilkerson (29/6), John Banville (1/7), Frank Miller (2/7), Emanuele Trevi (3/7).
The program
MTuesday 28 June: Eraldo Affinati the writer, journalist and teacher who, together with his wife, founded "Penny Wirton", the free school of Italian for immigrants, and whose latest book The Gospel of the Angels (HarperCollins, 2021) touches on the themes of him more expensive, from the education of disadvantaged students to an in-depth analysis of ethical issues. His novels Il Campo delangue (Mondadori, 1997) and Man of the future (Mondadori, 2016) were both finalists for the Strega Prize.
Wednesday June 29: the American writer Charmaine Wilkerson to be released in Italy with her first novel published by Frassinelli (June 2022) entitled Dolce nero, published in the United States in February and in Great Britain, conquering the charts of best-selling books. The book will become a TV series produced by Oprah Winfrey.
Friday July 1th with the Irish writer, journalist and screenwriter John Banville also known under the pseudonym Benjamin Black under which he wrote five novels. Author, among others, of Il mare, winner of the Booker Prize in 2005, he has been awarded several times for his noir and has just published his latest novel The Doubt of the Killer (Guanda, 2022).
American designer, screenwriter, director and film producer Frank Miller will be a guest at Le Conversazioni Saturday July 2. Author of comics such as Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City and 300, he is considered one of the most important and influential American cartoonists of the contemporary era. Winner of six Eisner Awards, four Kirby Awards, three Harvey Awards, he was also nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Sin City.
Sunday July 3th The Italian edition of the festival will be concluded by the novelist, essayist and literary critic Emanuele Trevi, winner of the Strega prize in 2021 for his novel Two Lives. In his career he has written numerous critical essays and worked on various curatorships, deepening the lives and work of international writers and thinkers, such as Emilio Salgari, John Fante, Goffredo Parise, Henri Michaux. He made his debut in fiction in 2003 with Dogs of Nowhere; and in 2012 Something written was nominated for the Strega prize.
The Conversations program will continue and will end in the fall in the United States with six appointments: after the opening meeting in New York in May with Adam Gopnik (5 May), the festival inaugurates two new stages in Washington in November where Frank will be guests. Bruni and Bob Woodward. Leslie Jamison, Daniel Libeskind, Judith Turman and Stuart Klawans will close the 5 edition in New York from 8 to 2022 December.
Added to this edition is the series of Conversations / Close-up meetings that opened last February to propose Antonio Monda's online appointments with Nathan Englander, Ian McEwan, Marilynne Robinson, Bret Easton Ellis, Jamaica Kincaid on Repubblica.it.
Overall, the 2022 Festival hosts 24 events in Rome, Capri, Washington and New York, to which must be added another 28 from the series In the beginning was the Word. Le Conversazioni 2022 is produced by Dazzle Communication, Spigoli and CPW Conversations, with the patronage of the MiC Ministry of Culture. The Festival is supported by Persol, Intesa Sanpaolo, Terna, Generali and Enel as Official Sponsor and with Repubblica media partner and Hotel Punta Tragara partner of the seventeenth edition. The conversations meetings are presented in collaboration with the New-York Historical Society, Palazzo Merulana, Hotel de Russie, Galleria Borghese, Villa San Michele and the City of Capri.
