Today, Thursday 2 June, is the 76th anniversary of the Italian Republic. In fact, on 2 June 1946 the Italians go to the polls; the electors and, for the first time also the electric ones, vote to "choose between republic and monarchy and to elect the deputies of the Constituent Assembly". Italy just out of the Second World War chooses the republican form and the Constituent Assembly, elected in the democratic consultation, draws up the new Constitution currently still in effect.
Republic Day, the parade returns to the Imperial Forums
This morning, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, in the presence of the highest institutional offices, pays tribute toAltar of the Fatherland with the deposition of a laurel wreath with tricolor ribbon. At the same time, the Frecce Tricolori will fly over the skies of Rome. Afterwards, the head of state will attend the traditional military parade from the presidential tribune in via dei Fori Imperiali.

The message to the prefects
For the anniversary of the Republic Day, President Mattarella sent a message to the prefects from all over Italy. Below is an excerpt. “The role of the prefects, who work as laborious actors of unity and social cohesion, is, once again, crucial. In the tasks of guaranteeing civil liberties, as in the commitment to protect legality and security, in constant dialogue with local authorities and in social mediation action.
In the management of migratory phenomena as well as emergencies, the Prefects act as essential interlocutors of the autonomy system and of civil society. In renewing good wishes to the prefects and to all those who hold public responsibilities work, with the sentiments of the Republic's appreciation for their action, I express the hope that the celebration of June 2 will be a renewed opportunity for citizens to reflect on constitutional values, which inspire their daily contribution to the service of the country ".
