Il FAI, Italian Environment Fund, has opened the new census of places of the heart, an initiative that involves all Italians in choosing the most loved and most worthy of protection places in our country. This census, now in its 12 edition, allows anyone to cast their vote for a special place: a monument, a church, a landscape, a museum or any other site that represents artistic and cultural value.

The census of Places of the Heart, started in 2003, has consolidated itself as a fundamental tool for the protection and enhancement of heritage cultural heritage. This project offers citizens the opportunity to vote for the places they consider most worthy of being safeguarded, involving both the public and private sectors in their conservation.
Participating is simple: just visit the FAI official website e vote for the desired location. If it is not present, you can request its inclusion and start a vote collection.

The three most voted places will receive funds for recovery projects: 70.000 euros for the first, 60.000 euros for the second and 50.000 euros for the third, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture.
Being selected among the Places of the Heart brings advantages that go beyond simple artistic and cultural recognition. These sites obtain visibility and attention, often attract funding and resources for their restoration. In the 2023 edition, the Church of San Pietro dei Samari in Gallipoli won first place, becoming a symbol of the initiative.
Why participate
The FAI census has collected 11 million votes to date over 39.000 places throughout Italy, demonstrating the deep bond that Italians maintain with their heritage, not only artistic but also emotional.
Every vote helps to bring to light sites that could otherwise be overlooked or forgotten, ensuring their protection and giving voice to the beauty and history present in every corner of the country.
